This year’s Sydney Marathon saw thousands of athletes take on the city’s most iconic course, with ASICS leading the charge as the official apparel sponsor. To support their brand presence across the weekend, Art vs Commerce designed a multi-site activation and our team at The Party Hire Co was trusted to deliver the structural elements that held it all together.
 

 
At the heart of ASICS’ activation was the Recovery Zone, located on Bennelong Lawn within the Royal Botanic Garden. This high-profile space needed to accommodate thousands of runners post-race while also presenting as a premium brand environment for media and athlete engagement.

To deliver this, we installed a 10m x 12m clear roof marquee to meet strict site and structural requirements:

• 7 tonnes of ballast ensured stability and compliance with engineering certification.
• A clear-span roofline maintained uninterrupted views of the surrounding lawn.
• Inside, the marquee offered a premium space for athlete recovery, interviews, and branded experiences.

The structure needed to look impressive, perform under heavy foot traffic, and meet strict garden preservation conditions — all of which were achieved through careful planning and execution.
 

 
Meanwhile, at the opposite end of Macquarie Street, our team delivered the entertainment hub for ASICS’ brand experience at Hyde Park Barracks. Here, we built a freestanding truss stage and DJ booth to energise crowds across the marathon weekend.
 

 
Major city events come with unique challenges — road closures, heritage-listed sites, strict engineering requirements, and immovable deadlines. Our team brought together the experience, certifications, and logistical planning needed to deliver on all fronts.

• 3-day bump-in to meet city access schedules.
• Engineering certifications and for all structures, ensuring compliance and safety.
• Coordination with multiple agencies — Art vs Commerce, The Park, AAV Media, and ASICS — to integrate seamlessly into a multi-faceted production.

 
We loved working alongside Art vs Commerce on such a landmark project for a global brand like ASICS. The result was a seamless, high-impact activation across two of Sydney’s most iconic sites — a project we’re proud to have been part of.

The activation ran all weekend, ​​with the 5 km Mini Marathon taking place on Saturday, 30 August, followed by the full marathon and 10 km run on Sunday, and served as a touchpoint for runner recovery, media, and audience interaction.
